James Hayes

Mr. Hayes is an associate lawyer at Border Solutions Law Group, licensed to practice law in both British Columbia and Washington State. He excels in litigation, representing clients in civil, immigration, and appellate matters across both jurisdictions.

In civil litigation, Mr. Hayes has extensive experience, particularly in personal injury claims and insurance disputes. His involvement in this field dates back to his time as a Rule 9 Law Clerk during law school. He is well-versed in discovery, summary judgment, arbitration, mediation, and trial advocacy in both Washington and British Columbia. This area of law remains a central focus of his practice.

Mr. Hayes also has a strong background in asylum and refugee law, removal defense, and waivers of inadmissibility. He regularly represents clients before various adjudicative bodies in both countries. As an immigrant himself, he deeply understands the challenges of navigating complex immigration systems. Having spent significant time in China and France, Mr. Hayes has developed a deep appreciation for both cultures. He believes that each client offers a valuable learning experience, and he fosters strong client relationships through cultural sensitivity, language skills, and understanding. He is fluent in French and conversant in Mandarin Chinese.

Outside of his legal practice, Mr. Hayes enjoys reading, playing guitar, and walking the Vancouver Seawall with his spouse.
